Celebrating a Century of Service
The Mississippi Dental Society was incorporated in the state of Mississippi on April 1, 1920. The Societies charter members consisted of a group of African American Dentist that were geographically diverse. The Objective of the Mississippi Dental Society is to promote the art and science of dentistry. These individuals understood that they were much more together than apart and they were in part if not the totality of their community. Our ambition is to raise the standard of the dental profession, stimulate favorable relations and good fellowship among dentist and other health professional’s work for the health of the community we serve; and work persistently for elimination of religious and racial discrimination, and segregation from dental institutions, clinics and organizations.
The Mississippi Dental Society has served the community not only as clinicians, but as pillars of the community. We have not done this alone. With the partnership of health professionals, over the state of Mississippi, we have served the population of Mississippi for 100 plus years. We consider this an honor and an obligation to the population of Mississippi.
“Rise Up Mississippi and Stand with US”.
Message from the President
Greetings MDS family, colleagues, sponsors, and friends.
We are well into another year and the organization has never been as strong and secure as it’s present state. I’m proud of the success; particularly in providing professional development and educational opportunities, the organization’s dedication to forming valuable mentoring relationships with dental students, and lastly, maintaining community outreach and alliances with other healthcare providers.
A new political scope has begun to bring about national, state, and local changes that will undoubtedly affect our professional and personal lives. Be assured, Mississippi Dental Society is a community of professionals that is here to offer support and to help navigate through these challenges. In many instances we can have an impact on changes that shape the landscape of our profession, but it takes involvement. Voices in unity are heard over a voice in solidarity. Strategic partnerships with affiliate organizations, corresponding in state and out of state organizations have always been efforts MDS has been willing to construct, working towards solutions and priorities of our members. These efforts lead to better care for the communities and patients we serve.
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage and challenge our younger and newest members to hold office positions or volunteer to serve on one of the many committees MDS provides. You have much more to offer than you may think you do! Making an impact on the profession and lives of patients go well beyond the clinical environment. Our choice of this profession binds us to common challenges and goals. Sharing your knowledge and involvement helps foster a community of support, strength, and action. Our leadership board would be glad to have you and guide you along the way.
I give many thanks to our members and sponsors for your dedication to the Society and our professional community. The organization does not exist without your efforts. Whether it’s maintaining membership or attending the outstanding CE events, the organization cannot function without your support. I’m excited for the plans of great continuing education opportunities and fellowship. It’s never too late to maintain your active status which allows you to share in the knowledge and support that your colleagues and programs have to offer. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
